Manual Handling

The purpose of this course is to educate participants in the correct procedures of handling loads safely. Participants who have completed this course will be able to:

  • Recognise a load which is too heavy or awkward.
  • Understand the limitations of the spine and muscular system.
  • Lift and handle loads safely.
Course Content
  • Anatomy of the spine and muscular system.
  • Video on Manual Handling.
  • Principals of levers and laws of motion.
  • How the body is harmed through incorrect handling techniques.
  • Importance of physical fitness.
  • Personal protective equipment.
  • How to handle loads safely.
  • Practice in handling loads safely, example of practical work.
  • Lifting to and from ground level.
  • Lifting to and from a height.
  • Pushing.
  • Pulling.
  • Legislation.
  • Lifting bags, or other loads appropriate to the workplace.
Who should attend?

All employees, as per the new 2005 Manual Handling Regulations.
